UK Gilt Comparison Calculator

Experimental tool to compare gilt net returns by maturity bracket and tax band

Compare conventional UK gilts side by side. Choose a quantity, maturity bracket (default Ultra-Short), and tax band, then compare to see purchase cost, net total return, and annualised return rate for each gilt — in a table and on a chart of return rate versus time to redemption. Sign in to use Medium, Long, and All.

Where the data comes from

The gilt list is sourced from the Debt Management Office Gilts in Issue report (D1A) . Market clean prices are refreshed from a public gilt price table. Maturity brackets follow the DMO labels (for example Ultra-Short, Short, Medium, and Long).

How the comparison works

For each gilt in the selected bracket, the calculator estimates coupon cashflows to redemption, applies income tax on coupon interest after the Personal Savings Allowance in each UK tax year, and keeps the move to the £100 redemption price outside Capital Gains Tax. Net total return and the annualised return rate use that after-tax outcome for the tax band you choose.

For a single gilt with a full cashflow schedule, use the UK Gilts Calculator.

  • This is not financial advice.
  • Figures use clean prices and assume you hold each gilt to redemption at £100. Accrued interest, dealing costs, and index-linked gilts are not included.
  • Tax estimates apply the Personal Savings Allowance in each UK tax year for coupon interest. Capital gains on gilts are treated as CGT-exempt.
